I had a sales appointment Friday with Kenny and he had a list of questions to ask me. I conceived and started writing this post a couple of days before I met with Kenny. So it was pretty cool that I was being interviewed! The appointment lasted 2.5 hrs. Maybe my answers are too thorough! But I did appreciate the questions that Kenny had for me. So I recommend you do the same while talking with a Local SEO company.

If you want to hire a Local SEO company, do you know what to ask and look for?

You don’t want to “jump into bed” with the first Local SEO

company that contacts you. This holds true even if it happens to be one of the major advertising companies. Especially if they transitioned from traditional marketing to internet marketing. In my experience, they churn through clients and they limit the coverage area for you business to your city. Now if you are in Boston that makes sense. But what if your town’s population is 8,000 and there are surrounding towns close by? Then an effective Local SEO company, like Digital+, will get you exposure in the surrounding towns.

 

So here is a list of questions you should ask. The answers you should hear will follow.

  2. If they edit your existing website, ask what they specifically will look at & edit?

Here are the answers you should hear from the Local SEO company you are interviewing.

Do you create a website for me or edit my existing website?

1. If they need a website for their Local SEO program RUN! The only Local SEO company to hire is one that edits your existing website.

If they edit your existing website, ask what they specifically will look at & edit?

2. Here is a list of things that should be looked at and edited if required.

  • Keyword for the page
  • Header (H1) tag contains keyword
  • URL contains keyword (301 redirect required)
  • Word count

How many local directories do you put my company info into?

What info do you include in the directories?

4. A high quality local SEO company would definitely do this. Optimizing means adding more than just your business name, address, phone number, email & website. Payments accepted, hrs open, photos (if allowed), video(s) (if allowed), & keywords/categories (if offered) should be included in every directory listing.

Do you edit the content on my website?

5. If your web page content isn’t SEO optimized it MUST be to have an effective Local SEO program. To do so may include rewriting it completely. Or just minor edits to make sure the keyword density is right. We find most web pages are 150ish words long. Google looks for 250+ words. So if an SEO company doesn’t optimize your existing site then I highly recommend you end the interview and interview another company — like Digital+!

Will you create additional pages if needed?

6. This actually is not typically done. If the SEO service does not write and create additional pages for you then you will be required to provide the content. It isn’t a deal beaker if they don’t.

If you want to promote (have it found for a Google search) a particular service or product line then you need a web page for it. Without that web page you will not be found for that service or product. What keywords will you target & how do you find them?
